This shot is still probably the highlight of my career. A 5 minute steadicam move following the action of the beach at Dunkirk. Beginning to end I must have been on it for about 5-6 months.
We extended the beach with thousands of extra soldiers, shot on green-screen and then projected onto cards. Extra smoke and cg vehicles completed the chaos of the evacuation.
Amongst all of this were additional gags: removing tyre tracks from the sand, gun fire and blood hits for the execution of two horses and a few fix-it’s along the way.
All helped out by a beautiful evening and Seamus McGarvey’s awesome photography.
